Theatre Momentum is hosting
The Dramatic Improv Festival, October 4-6, 2019!
The festival will be held in the North Center neighborhood of Chicago on October 4-6, with classes running on Saturday and Sunday.
This is the first of its kind, an entire festival/conference dedicated to bringing together the best dramatic improvisors in the world to cross-pollinate, perform, learn, and network. There will be numerous performances, three festival venues, and workshops galore. That’s where you come in!
We are currently seeking instructors for our Featured classes, and we’d love to hear from you!
Featured Instructors will receive a festival pass, good for all performances, as well as some other perks.
We are seeking instructors who have a background in improvisation and theatre, and who have some element of their curriculum that overlaps with Dramatic Improvisation.
What does that mean?
Well, it all depends on you. Pitch us your workshop! As much detail as possible is always good, so we can make informed decisions about our instructors. This is a new festival, and we’re well aware that there are numerous approaches to dramatic improv, and we want to populate our workshops with a variety of instructors.
Dramatic, eh? So no comedy classes?
Since this is a dramatic improv festival, our aim is to broaden the horizons of the dramatic improvisor student. So, while classes can certainly have comedic scenes and lessons that can span across all genres, we’re not looking for anything specifically aimed at “comedy”, per se. If you have questions or need clarification on anything, just drop us a line!
We are a brand new festival, so we are unable to offer large stipends for instructors, but we can offer a 65/35 split (instructor/festival) of all income for your class. You can set the price of your class, but most $30-50 is the norm for a 2 1/2 hour class. If you are able to do so, you can teach more than one class, either on the same subject, or on multiple subjects. Please indicate this in your online form, below.
For each class, we would like to keep the number of students to a maximum of 15. You may set your class minimum. Each class will be 2 1/2 hours long, so we can put in as many wonderful classes as possible. If you’re unable to teach your class in this timeframe, please let us know, and we’ll see if we can accommodate something longer.
We will have classes running on Saturday, October 5 and Sunday, October 6. The time slots are listed below:
Saturday: 10 AM-12:30 PM, 1:30 PM-4 PM, 4:30-7 PM
Sunday: 10 AM-12:30 PM, 1:30 PM-4 PM
We will have a minimum of 5 classroom venues, so there is plenty of space for all sorts of classes!
We are trying to make class as inexpensive as possible for everyone, so we are requiring that every class have 2 “scholarship slots” for students in need, as selected by the festival. These two slots will come out of the 15 students, so the number of paid students will max out at 13.
workshops via skype
Since this is our first year, we are unable to pay for flights into Chicago, but, depending on interest, we may set up some classes via Skype, for those instructors who wish to participate but cannot travel to Chicago. If you are potentially in that boat, please make note on your sign-up form. Thanks!
We’ll be taking submissions through the end of March and will make final decisions by early May, and will get back to all submitters by then.
And that’s it! If you have any questions whatsoever, please feel free to drop us a line, and we’ll get back to you right away!
