One Day Workshops
Can’t commit to a full 10 week class? These one-day workshops are a great way to try out the Theatre Momentum style and dip your toe in dramatic improvisation. No prerequisites.
All in-person classes are hosted at Studio Momentum (1541 W. Belmont)

Building Character
A character is more than a silly accent or weird quirk that you lose the moment you step offstage. In this workshop, you will learn inside-out techniques that will help you instantly create a 3-dimensional character with depth, point of view, and inner life- characters you will be able to carry for a full 45 minute performance.

Chewing the Scenery
Working with real hand props, this workshop will focus on engaging your environment to build history, express emotion, and easily make scenic discoveries. Learn how your “where” and your “how” create your character’s “why”. Get out of your head and into the space. Never stand around as a talking head again!

Breaking the (Improv) Law
There are tons of "don'ts" you hear in improv. No questions, no transactions, no discussing the future or the past, no gossiping about characters who aren't there. Let's turn those rules on their heads and create beautiful, complex scenes with life and humanity. This workshop will give you tools you can take into scenes of any kind to turn any "don't" into a "wow!"

Reading Between the Lines
The text on the page is not the entirety of the play. Starting with simple scripts, this workshop will guide students to find subtext, infuse dialogue with meaning, and communicate through silence. Build grounded scenes and discover new methods to listen and play beyond the words.

Conjuring the Invisible
It's easy enough to make something disappear, but how about creating something from nothing? In this workshop, students will hone their skills at object work and learn the simple tricks and techniques to crafting 3-dimensional environments and beautiful spaces for their characters to play in.
